Indonesia Second Home Visa Guide (2026)

Indonesia's Second Home visa is Visa Indeks E33 (Visa Rumah Kedua) on the Directorate General of Immigration site. It is a limited-stay visa for foreigners who want to live in Indonesia without a personal or company sponsor, using an immigration guarantee instead. The first limited-stay permit can run up to five years and can be extended so that total limited stay in Indonesia is not more than ten years. Within 90 days of the limited-stay permit, you must place at least USD 130,000 in your own name at a state-owned bank, or prove ownership of an Indonesian apartment or condominium worth at least USD 1,000,000. You must keep that guarantee for the life of the permit. Official PNBP for the five-year package is Rp13,000,000. This is not a tourist Visa on Arrival and not a classic remote-work nomad visa.

This guide is for people who can park a large deposit or qualifying property and want Bali, Jakarta, or another Indonesian base measured in years, not 30-day VoA stamps.

The problem it solves is the VoA loop: 30 days, one extension to 60, then a flight to Singapore. E33 is the long product. It still has a 90-day funding deadline that people miss.

You will get the official index name, the two guarantee routes, fees, what the permit allows, a 2026 worked example, and the mistakes that cancel a five-year plan. For short-stay math see how long US citizens can stay in Indonesia and Indonesia overstay fines.

What the Second Home visa is

E33 is a limited-stay visa (Visa Tinggal Terbatas) that lets you enter and leave Indonesia while the stay permit is valid, without applying for a new visa each trip. The limited-stay permit (ITAS) and re-entry permit are issued automatically when an officer admits you at the immigration checkpoint.

It is built around an immigration guarantee, not an Indonesian employer. That is why there is no sponsor.

It is not:

  • A 30-day Visa on Arrival
  • A B211A visit visa
  • A work permit by itself
  • A promise of permanent stay or citizenship

Imigrasi says the limited stay can be converted to another stay permit under the rules. That is a later filing, not an automatic upgrade.

Who it applies to

The subject line on the E33 page is foreigners who want to live and settle in Indonesia without a guarantor, using the immigration guarantee.

There is no published age floor on the E33 page itself. There is no nationality shortlist on that page. You still need a passport valid at least six months, a clean file, and the money or property.

Family may stay with you if they meet immigration rules. Dependents are not a free add-on. Each person needs the documents the portal asks for.

If you only need 30 or 60 days in Canggu, use VoA or an exemption. E33 is for people who will actually fund the guarantee.

The 90-day guarantee

This is the compliance trap.

You apply with a written commitment to invest. You then have at most 90 days from the date the limited-stay permit is granted to prove one of:

  • Funds in your own name at a state-owned bank of at least USD 130,000 (or equivalent), or
  • Ownership of an Indonesian apartment or condominium worth at least USD 1,000,000 (or equivalent)

Imigrasi also says the commitment must be fulfilled and reported to the immigration office that issued the ITAS within 90 days of entry, with proof of the account or the property.

Read both clocks. Do not treat "I'll wire it next quarter" as a plan.

The guarantee value must be maintained at least at the committed amount for the whole time the stay permit is valid. Drawing the deposit below the line is a status problem, not a banking inconvenience.

Application-stage documents on the E33 page also include a personal bank statement of at least USD 2,000 (or equivalent) over the last three months, a CV, photo, passport, and travel history or itinerary. That USD 2,000 statement is not a substitute for the USD 130,000 guarantee.

Worked example: Nina's 2026 Bali E33

Nina, a German citizen, applies on evisa.imigrasi.go.id on 6 January 2026 with a six-month-valid passport, a USD 2,400 three-month statement, a CV, and a signed commitment to place USD 130,000 at a state-owned bank. Payment of Rp13,000,000 clears. The visa is issued 10 January 2026. She must enter Indonesia within 90 days of issuance, so she lands at Ngurah Rai on 20 January 2026. ITAS and the re-entry permit print at the checkpoint. She opens the state-bank account and deposits USD 130,000 on 15 February 2026, then reports to the issuing immigration office with the account proof, well inside 90 days of both ITAS and entry. If she waits until 25 April 2026, she has blown the 90-day window.

What you may do on E33

The official "with this visa you can" list includes tourism, buying goods, and visiting family and friends. You may also work, study, or do other activities if you file a dual-activity report with the immigration office that issued the stay permit.

You may bring family if they meet the rules. You may enter and leave while the stay permit is valid without a new visa.

The same page also lists prohibitions:

  • Do not stay beyond the permit
  • Do not do work that does not match the stay permit
  • Do not sell goods or services except as required for that work

That is not an open freelance licence. If your real plan is Indonesian employment, ask whether you need a separate work authorization. If your plan is remote work for a foreign employer, file the dual-activity report the page describes and confirm current practice with the issuing office. Do not treat a blog "no work" or "full work" slogan as the statute.

Overstay on any Indonesian permit is expensive. Daily fines and the 60-day deportation cliff are covered in Indonesia overstay: Bali fines and blacklist.

Fees, timing, and how to apply

Step 1. Confirm you can place USD 130,000 in a state-owned bank within 90 days, or that you already hold qualifying property.

Step 2. Create the application on evisa.imigrasi.go.id with passport, three-month statement of at least USD 2,000, photo, CV, itinerary, and the commitment letter.

Step 3. Pay PNBP. For up to five years the official breakdown is Rp500,000 visa + Rp2,000,000 verification + Rp7,000,000 five-year ITAS + Rp3,500,000 five-year re-entry permit, total Rp13,000,000. Refused applications do not refund PNBP.

Step 4. Wait the stated four working days after payment. Enter Indonesia within 90 days of visa issuance.

Step 5. On admission, photograph the ITAS dates. Place or prove the guarantee and report to the issuing office within 90 days. Keep the balance or property in place for the whole permit.

The E33 page still contains leftover sponsor-account language in the general "how to apply" block. The dedicated sponsor section says you do not need a sponsor. Follow the E33-specific rule: no guarantor.

Legal basis listed on the E33 page includes Law 6/2011 as amended by Law 63/2024, Government Regulation 31/2013 as amended, Government Regulation 45/2024 on PNBP, Ministerial Regulation 22/2023 as amended by 11/2024, and the 2025 visa classification decision. Imigrasi announced the product in 2022; use the live E33 page for current deposit figures, not the 2022 circular's older rupiah wording alone.

E33 versus VoA and other long stays

ProductTypical stayMoney testSponsor
Visa exemption / VoA30 days, often one 30-day extensionNone like E33No
Visit visa (B211-style)Months, with extensionsLower than E33Often yes
E33 Second HomeUp to 5 years, total limited stay up to 10USD 130,000 or USD 1 million propertyNo

Visa runs from Bali are a different, weaker strategy. See best visa runs from Indonesia (Bali).

E33 is also not Japan's six-month nomad visa or Brazil's VITEM XIV. Those are remote-work categories with income tests. E33 is a second-home limited stay with a capital guarantee. Compare Japan's digital nomad visa and Brazil's VITEM XIV if your need is a classic nomad permit rather than a funded Indonesian home base.

Common mistakes

Missing the 90-day deposit. The visa is granted on a commitment. The deposit or property proof confirms it. Late funding is the failure mode.

Using a private bank. The page specifies a state-owned bank for the USD 130,000 route.

Spending the guarantee. The value must be maintained while the permit is valid.

Treating VoA overstay as a path into E33. Pay the overstay and leave, or fix status lawfully. Do not "wait it out."

Ignoring dual-activity reporting if you will work. The permit is not a silent work visa.

Assuming Staywise will file e-visa. It will not.

How to track Second Home dates without a spreadsheet

E33 has several dates at once: 90 days to enter after issuance, 90 days to fund the guarantee, the five-year ITAS end date, and any dual-activity conditions. Staywise (the visa compliance app for digital nomads) counts days across countries automatically and sends overstay alerts at 7, 3, and 1 day. Passport details stay on your device. Only travel dates and countries sync. Available on iOS.

Staywise does not apply on evisa.imigrasi.go.id and is not a visa agency. Free trial, then annual subscription. See App Store for current pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Indonesia's Second Home visa?

It is Visa Indeks E33, Visa Rumah Kedua, a limited-stay visa for foreigners who will live in Indonesia without a sponsor. You qualify through an immigration guarantee: USD 130,000 in your own name at a state-owned bank, or an Indonesian apartment or condominium worth at least USD 1,000,000, fulfilled within 90 days. First stay can be up to five years. Total limited stay is not more than ten years. It is not a 30-day Visa on Arrival.

How much money do I need for the Indonesia Second Home visa?

The headline guarantee is at least USD 130,000 in a state-owned bank account in your own name, or qualifying property of at least USD 1,000,000. You also show a personal statement of at least USD 2,000 over three months at application. Government PNBP for the five-year package is Rp13,000,000. The USD 130,000 remains yours, but you must keep the committed value while the permit is valid.

How long does the Second Home visa last?

The first limited-stay permit can run up to five years. Imigrasi says it can be extended so that total limited stay in Indonesia is not more than ten years, and it may be converted to another stay permit under the rules. The entry visa itself is valid 90 days from issuance. Enter in that window or apply again. Photograph the ITAS end date the day you land so the five-year clock is not a guess.

Can I work in Indonesia on the E33 Second Home visa?

The official page lists work, study, or other activities if you file a dual-activity report with the issuing immigration office. It also forbids work that does not match the stay permit, and forbids selling goods or services except as required for that work. Confirm the current reporting practice with the office that issued your ITAS. Do not take Indonesian employment on silence. E33 is not a substitute for a dedicated work authorization if that is what your job legally needs.

Do I need a sponsor for Indonesia's Second Home visa?

No. The E33 page states you do not need a guarantor or sponsor. The immigration guarantee (deposit or property) replaces the sponsor. That is the feature that separates E33 from many KITAS products. You still complete the online file, pay PNBP, enter in time, and fund the guarantee within 90 days. A leftover "sponsor account" sentence on the same page does not override the E33-specific no-sponsor rule.
