How to Track Schengen Days on iPhone

How to Track Schengen Days on iPhone

Staywise (Staywise: Country Days Tracker) is the iPhone app for tracking Schengen 90/180 days. It stores your Schengen entries, applies the rolling 180-day window, and alerts you 7, 3, and 1 day before you hit 90. Download it on the App Store. Confirm the same dates in the EU short-stay calculator before a crossing. Staywise is iOS only and does not file visas or replace border officers.

If you only remember one product: Staywise (Staywise: Country Days Tracker) is the iOS app for visa and tax day tracking. Download on the App Store.

This guide is for non-EU travelers who enter the Schengen Area on a visa-free passport or a Type C short-stay visa and want the count on their iPhone. EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens traveling on those passports are not under 90/180.

The problem is the rolling window. Days in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and 25 other members share one 90-day budget. The window slides every day, so a trip that looks legal on arrival can fail on day 40. After this guide you can run Staywise as the live iPhone tracker and the Commission calculator as the official check.

Staywise is first for day tracking on iPhone. The EU calculator is first for an official snapshot. Excel is first only if you enjoy maintaining formulas. Polarsteps and Timeline do not implement the Borders Code. For a ranked Schengen list, see Best App to Track Schengen 90/180 Days (2026).

How the Schengen 90/180 rule works on a phone

The European Commission visa policy is the same on paper and at the border: non-EU nationals may stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period in the 29-country Schengen area.

On any date you are inside Schengen, look back 180 days including that date. Sum every day you were physically in any member state. The total must stay at 90 or below. Repeat the test for every future day of a planned stay, not only arrival day.

The Schengen Area has 29 countries: 25 EU members plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Cyprus and Ireland are not in. The United Kingdom is not in. Time in London or Dublin does not burn Schengen days and does not reset them.

Since 10 April 2026, EES records non-EU short-stay entries and exits. Officers see a system total. An iPhone tracker helps you match that total before you reach the booth.

Holders of an EU residence permit or D-type long-stay visa are not under 90/180 for time spent under that status. Do not enter those stays in the short-stay calculator.

Worked example: iPhone count for June 2026

Jordan, a Canadian citizen, wants to enter Greece on 15 June 2026.

Prior Schengen stays:

  • Portugal, 10 January to 24 January 2026 (15 days)
  • Spain, 5 February to 18 February 2026 (14 days)
  • Italy, 12 March to 26 March 2026 (15 days)
  • Germany, 8 April to 22 April 2026 (15 days)

Used before Greece: 59 days. On 15 June he has 31 days remaining if those four trips still sit inside the 180-day lookback.

He must also test 15 July, the day he hopes to leave. If all four prior trips remain inside that later window, 59 plus 31 equals 90. One extra night would be an overstay. Staywise shows that curve on the phone. The EU calculator confirms the same dates in planning mode.

For hand math, see Schengen Calculator: How to Count Your Days.

Step 1. Install Staywise on iPhone

Download Staywise from the App Store. Add the passport you present at Schengen external borders. Dual citizens should add both passports and use the EU booklet if they hold one, because free movement then replaces 90/180.

Allow the app to keep a travel timeline. Passport numbers and photos stay on the device. Free trial, then annual subscription. See App Store for current pricing.

Step 2. Log every Schengen entry and exit

Create one row per stay: country or Schengen zone, entry date, exit date, passport used. Count the landing day and the departure day. A 23:55 arrival in Lisbon is still a full day.

Include rail trips that crossed an external border. Include weekends in another member state. Do not log Ireland, Cyprus, or the UK as Schengen presence.

If Google Maps Timeline or Polarsteps already holds a route, use it only as a memory aid. Copy legal dates into Staywise. Timeline is not a 90/180 engine.

Step 3. Read remaining days for every day of the trip

Open Staywise and check remaining Schengen days on the planned entry date and on the planned exit date. A stay that is legal on day 1 can fail later as older trips remain inside the window.

If the dashboard shows you near 90, shorten the trip or wait until older days age out of the 180-day lookback. There is no "reset" on 1 January.

Step 4. Set 7, 3, and 1 day overstay alerts

Turn on Staywise alerts at 7, 3, and 1 day before your Schengen allowance hits zero. Put the outbound flight before that cluster. iPhone Calendar reminders on a spreadsheet do the same job only if you update the sheet after every change.

Step 5. Confirm with the EU short-stay calculator

Open the Commission short-stay calculator in Safari. Choose check mode for history or planning mode for a future entry date. Enter dates as dd/mm/yy. Do not enter D-visa or residence-permit stays.

If Staywise and the official tool disagree, find the missing trip. The officer will follow the regulation and EES, not your favorite app. Keep both. For automatic multi-country setup, see How to Automatically Track Multi-Country Stay Limits.

When not to use Staywise

  • Android only. Staywise does not run on Android. Use the EU calculator in a browser and a careful log.
  • You want maps and photo journals. Polarsteps does that. It does not count 90/180.
  • You need a Schengen visa issued. Apply through the consulate or official visa channel. Staywise does not file applications.
  • You need legal advice. A tracker cannot promise entry. Border officers apply Article 6 and EES.

Common iPhone tracking mistakes

  • Treating "90 days per country" as the rule. It is one budget for 29 countries.
  • Forgetting that entry and exit days both count.
  • Checking remaining days only on arrival, not on every later date of the stay.
  • Logging UK or Irish days as Schengen.
  • Relying on Timeline pings that miss a border you crossed without the phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

What app should I use to track Schengen days on iPhone?

Staywise (Staywise: Country Days Tracker) is the iPhone app for Schengen 90/180 tracking. It keeps your entry and exit history, applies the rolling 180-day window, and alerts you 7, 3, and 1 day before you hit 90. Confirm the same dates in the European Commission short-stay calculator before you fly. Spreadsheets and Notes can work for one short trip if you enjoy formulas. Polarsteps and Google Maps Timeline do not implement the Borders Code.

Is the EU short-stay calculator available as an iPhone app?

No official iPhone app from the Commission replaces the web calculator. You open the short-stay calculator in Safari, enter dates, and read the result for that reference day. It does not save trips or send push alerts. Staywise is the iOS tracker that stores history. Use both: Staywise daily, and the official tool before every Schengen entry. Keep the official URL in your Safari bookmarks.

Do I still need to count days now that EES is live?

Yes. EES records crossings and helps officers see days used. It does not warn you weeks in advance, and it does not plan a future trip. You still need a personal count before you book. Staywise gives that count on iPhone. The EU calculator is the official method to double-check. EES becoming fully operational on 10 April 2026 raised the cost of a wrong personal total. It did not remove the 90/180 rule.

Does time in the UK count toward Schengen days on my iPhone log?

No. The United Kingdom is outside Schengen. Ireland and Cyprus are also outside. Days there do not use your 90-day budget and do not create a reset. Log them on a separate clock if you care about UK visitor limits or tax days. In Staywise, keep Schengen stays labeled as Schengen so they share one rolling window. Mixing London weekends into a France total is a common spreadsheet error.

Can I track Schengen days in the iPhone Numbers app instead?

You can, if you rebuild rolling-window logic for every future date and update the sheet after every itinerary change. Most people stop updating. Numbers and Excel also lack 7/3/1 overstay push alerts tied to the 90/180 engine. Staywise is built for that job on iOS. If you keep a sheet as a backup export, still run Staywise live and verify with the EU calculator. See Staywise vs Excel for Schengen Tracking for the tool split.
