If you read this after December 2026, look for a new Cabinet decision or an updated Visit Barbados / Immigration notice. Do not assume a 2023 Cabinet minute lasts forever.

Who the Welcome Stamp is for

You do not fit if your plan is a Barbados job, a local consulting gig, or "I'll figure it out on the beach." That is a work permit, not a Welcome Stamp.

Dependents can be included. The apply form asks for relationship proof and whether children will attend school. School-aged children approved on the family stamp do not need a separate student visa to start enrolment, according to Visit Barbados, but public-school places can be tight.

Income, documents, and fees

Visit Barbados lists:

• Passport-sized photograph for the principal and each family member over 18
• Biodata page of each passport
• Proof of relationship for dependents
• Annual income of at least US$50,000 over the 12 months you intend to hold the stamp

The live Form C-5 adds an income declaration: you certify that you expect to earn US$50,000 or more over the next 12 months and/or have means to support yourself, spouse or partner, and dependents. It also collects employer name, a description of the work, proposed entry date, and a criminal-conviction question.

Fees are due after approval, not as a lottery ticket:

• Individual: US$2,000, non-refundable
• Family bundle: US$3,000, non-refundable
• Pay within 28 days of approval

Visit Barbados says applications are typically approved within 7 business days. That is a typical, not a guarantee.

Health insurance is not itemized on the Visit Barbados bullet list the way Costa Rica lists a US$50,000 policy. You still need a practical way to pay for care. Do not treat silence on the marketing page as "no insurance ever."

How to apply for a Barbados Welcome Stamp

Step 1. Confirm remote, location-independent work for foreign clients or a foreign employer, and expected income of at least US$50,000 over 12 months.

Step 2. Scan a passport photo, biodata page, and relationship certificates for every person in the family group.

Step 3. Complete Form C-5 on barbadoswelcomestamp.bb/applynow. Choose New or Renewal. Upload the files.

Step 4. Sign the declarations: no local Barbados employment or services, and that the information is true.

Step 5. Wait for the approval notice. Pay the US$2,000 or US$3,000 fee within 28 days.

Step 6. Travel with the approved stamp arrangements. Complete any Immigration endorsement they instruct (including placing the visa copy in a child's passport when required).

Step 7. If you will stay a second year, use the same form's Renewal option and watch the 31 December 2026 Cabinet horizon.

Visit Barbados names a Welcome Stamp manager contact on the programme page if the portal fails. Immigration remains the decision-maker.

Worked example: The Okonks' 2026 family stamp

Ada, a Nigerian-British product designer, invoices UK and US clients at about US$72,000 per year. Her partner works remotely for a Canadian firm. They apply on 10 September 2026 as a family bundle with their 8-year-old. They upload photos, biodata pages, and a marriage certificate, certify income above US$50,000, and declare they will not serve Barbados clients. Approval arrives in 8 business days. They pay US$3,000 on 22 September 2026 and fly 5 October 2026. The child's Welcome Stamp copy goes in the passport so school enrolment can start. Their lawful remote-work year runs about 12 months from issuance. If they want 2027 as well, they must renew and confirm the programme still exists after the 31 December 2026 Cabinet date.

Work rules and tax

Visit Barbados is blunt: the visa is for remote work only, for companies and individuals outside Barbados.

Consequences they list:

• You are not liable to pay Barbados income tax on that remote setup, so you are not in Barbados double-tax on those earnings
• You still pay Barbados VAT (stated as 17.5% on the tourism page) on goods and services you buy on island
• If you later start a Barbados business, that is a different tax and immigration story (Invest Barbados cites corporate rates in a 1% to 5.5% band)

The Form C-5 declaration is broader than "no full-time job." It bars offering services to people and entities carrying on business in Barbados. A side freelance project for a local hotel is a problem.

Home-country tax does not disappear. US citizens still file US returns. Other passports should check whether 183 days in Barbados creates tax residence at home.

Families, schools, and pets

Visit Barbados says education is compulsory for children aged 5 to 16. Welcome Stamp children can use private schools, request public-school enrolment through the Ministry of Education (space permitting), or homeschool.

Steps they describe after Immigration issues the family stamp:

• C-5 already filed
• Child's passport stamped as instructed
• School chosen from Ministry lists
• School Welcome Visa Registration Form after acceptance
• Public-school requests go to the ministry; private schools run their own admissions

Public special schools are described as having no current space. Several public secondary schools have limited availability.

Pets can travel if you complete veterinary import paperwork and book pet-friendly housing. That is agriculture and veterinary regulation, not the Welcome Stamp form.

How the stamp interacts with ordinary visits

Barbados also has ordinary visitor entries. Those are not a 12-month remote-work visa. If you arrive as a visitor and then apply, you remain a visitor until Immigration grants the stamp. Do not work locally in the gap. Do not assume visitor time plus a pending C-5 equals Welcome Stamp status.

CARICOM nationals and other visa-free visitors still need the stamp if they want this remote-work product and the tax posture that comes with it.

Overstay of visitor time is a separate Immigration problem. The Welcome Stamp does not erase a prior overstay.

Edge cases and the December 2026 cliff

Renewal. The apply form includes Renewal and a previous visa number. The 2024 Ministry release says the Remote Employment Act allows the stamp to be renewed after a year. Renewal is not automatic.

Criminal convictions. Form C-5 asks whether you have been convicted of a serious criminal offence. Answer truthfully.

Linked applications. The form can link to an existing application. Families should not file two unrelated principals by accident.

Stays that run past 31 December 2026. A stamp issued in September 2026 might be valid into 2027 as a 12-month visa if Immigration still issues it. The Cabinet minute currently on the Ministry site only approves the programme through 31 December 2026. Verify before you sign a 14-month lease.

Starting a Barbados company. That is not what you declared on C-5. Use Invest Barbados and a work-permit or other category.

Common mistakes

Treating visitor entry as permission to work remotely for a year. Apply for the stamp.

Taking a local Barbados client "just this once." The C-5 declaration is strict.

Missing the 28-day fee window. Approval without payment does not finish the visa.

Under-documenting a family bundle. Every adult needs a photo; every person needs a biodata page; relationships need proof.

Ignoring the Cabinet end date. Programme existence and your personal 12-month stamp are related but not identical.

Assuming public school is guaranteed. Visit Barbados warns about limited places.
